Tempest

The fourth challenge for the “32 Books Challenge” was to read a horror or
mystery book. As I am not very much a fan of horror stories, I decided to
choose a book which is part mystery and part thriller and equally intriguing.
The book that I chose was ‘Tempest’.
Tempest tells an unforgettable tale about time travel. In the year 2009,
nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a time traveller who can travel back in
time. Excited with his newly acquired superpowers, Jackson frequently
time-jumps for fun and even agreed to carry out time-jump experiments with his
best friend, Adam Silverman who wants to figure out the science behind it. This
continues until one day, two strangers --- the Enemies of Time --- burst in on
Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly and fatally shoots her.
Panicked and disoriented, Jackson accidentally jumps back to 2007. Despite
many efforts to jump back to 2009 to save Holly, Jackson fails and is stuck in
the past with no way of getting to the future. He soon discovers some secrets
about his father and the mysterious Enemies of Time who will stop at nothing to
kill him. Ultimately, Jackson must decide how much he is willing to sacrifice
to save Holly.
With all the many time jumps that happen in this story, Tempest is an
incredibly fast-paced novel. Readers will not get bored with this novel as they
will be dying to know who those mysterious Enemies of Time are, why they are
showing up everywhere and what they want from Jackson. Tempest also introduces
some very interesting time travel concepts which you have to read if you want
to know more about.
All in all, Tempest is not your typical ‘boy meets girl and they live
happily after’ kind of story. It is a maze filled with unsuspecting twists and
turns that will leave your heart in your mouth most of the time. (Yes, it is
just that thrilling!) Constant action, heartfelt moments and a thrilling plot
twist all add up to a fascinating first book of an epic trilogy. You should
totally give Tempest a try if you love a good mystery and some thrills!
