Cabaran Review Ketiga - The Scorch Trials oleh Hanim Nurain

The Scorch Trial is the second book from the Maze Runner series. The movie is published in 2015. While the book written by James Dashner is publish in 2013 by Chicken House.

What after they succeed escaping The Glade? After fighting toe-and-toe with the killer machine. The game is already over? No, truth is the game is not over yet!

They wake up to the noise from zombies all around their house. Wondering how on earth everything that calm and feel normal changing in one night? Where are everyone that help and rescue them from WICKED? All the zombies all around them coming from where?

They need to figure things out. Finding a safe and closed place away from the zombies reach to peacefully think. In finding one closed room they discover that those who rescued them has been brutally killed. Who killed them? How they get killed?

Approaching Teresa room lead to bigger question when it clearly written outside her room “Teresa The Betrayer” what does it means? And the questions get complicated when the person in that room is not Teresa? Who is he? Where is Teresa?

Aris, the one in the Teresa’s room is actually from the group B. There is exactly another Glade just what they escape from. The difference is their group is all boys and one girl. While Aris’s group is all girls and one boy which is he, himself. What is the true purpose of this experiment? What they supposed to do now?

One day they wake up to a stock of foods and a man sitting across the room with a transparent glass separated him from the Gladers. Not answering a single question. Not responding to everything done by the Gladers. Once his time come, he finally spoke. They have a new mission. Tomorrow they need to get into the Flat Trans within 5 minutes. Find a way out. Cross the scorch blazing sun heading to north. In 2 weeks time from the moment they hop into the Flat Trans, they need to reach safe haven. Get a cured from the flare, a virus that everyone has within theirs now.

Everyone get on the Flat Trans right on time. And everything is just pitch black after that. Moving forward with Minho lead the group to find a way out. When suddenly a whisper from the old man repeatedly said they need to go back or they will get sliced. Contemplating but keep moving forward. Suddenly a scream from Glader take over room. And Thomas figure out that they is a metal ball eat up the Glader head. Everyone is shocked. Running forward to safe their life from whatever killing machine they will sliced their head.

Minho finally reach stack of stairs. Climbing up together with Newt and Thomas to see is there any door ahead. Once open they got blind by the direct line of the light. Not to mention the heat. It definitely hot as is the sun is only few metres away. They need to get out no matter what. The Killing Machine ball nearly eat up Winston few minutes back. It the only choice they had for now.

Face the heat and heading to nearest tree or building for shelter is their mission now. It just too hot for them. Not even a single tree nor a building is seen. But they keep moving forward in search for one. Heading to north, towards the safe haven. In two weeks time.

Few days after walking miles through the dessert, a storm approach them. A storm with lightning thunder. They already reaching an abandoned building by then, they need to run fast into that building to save their life or else they will get burned by lightning in open space like this.

Once the storm settled, everyone wake up with a groan of hunger. They need to find source of food and water. They need it in order to get the sufficient energy to continue their journey.

Afterwards they make an alliance with two citizens, Jorge and Brenda. Both of them will help them with foods and water and get to safe haven safely in return they will received the cure been promised to The Gladers.

Things doesn’t work out smoothly and easy afterwards. Thomas and Brenda got separated from the group in one explosions. Both of them using underground tunnel to room across the town. Fighting with zombies. Thomas also discovered a dull metal with some lettering just what he used to see in The Glade. The difference is, the once in The Glade said World in catastrophe – killzone experiment department. While this one it said THOMAS, YOU’RE THE REAL LEADER. What it really mean? Doesn’t the tattoo written on Minho back stated that he is the leader? While what written in his is To get killed by Group B. He don’t understand what happening here.

After that new discoveries, both of them is welcomed by another group of citizens. Thomas is being shoot in his shoulder when he and Brenda attempt to get out from that particular group with the help of the other Gladers, they get reunited. Thomas is infected by the bullet and get weaker, Suddenly a Berg come and take Thomas. The mysterious people from the Berg send him back to his group once his shoulder is healed. Is they WICKED? If it is, why they save Thomas? How many people had died in the last few days while WICKED stood by and watched? And why was it any different for Thomas, just because he’d been shot by a rusty bullet? What is it about Thomas that makes him so special?

The next day, all of them moving towards the mountain. The safe haven will be few miles after the mountain. Upon reaching the mountain, Teresa appeared, with a group of girls. Those in Group B, Aris’s group. They have weapon with them, and take Thomas with them. They received instructions to kill Thomas.

Thomas is being longing for Teresa for long, but now she act as if he has done an awful thing to her. What has he done? Is Teresa is being controlled by WICKED just what Ally is in The Glade?

After all the girls of Group B doesn’t convinced to kill Thomas just like what Teresa insist to do. And turn up, Teresa is with Aris from the beginning. She really a betrayer just what it is stated outside her room. Both of them communicate telepathically since in The Glade. Both of them trick Thomas to enter a gas room. Is this how Thomas supposed to die? By gas, not by the rusty blood? Huh.

What happen to the other Gladers from both group? Are they managed to reach the safe haven on time? Do Brenda and Jorge able to received the cure? Is this really the end of the game?

If, you watched the movie .. the movie is about 20-30% same like the book. It is recommended for you to read the book even if you had watch the movie. Its totally a different feeling. Enjoy the adventure and the run!
