The
first challenge for the “32 Books Challenge” was to read your best
friend’s favourite book. The book recommended by my best friend, Jeremy,
was ‘The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto’. He had recommended me this
book as he knew that I was a staunch lover of Mitch Albom’s works.
The
Magic Strings of Frankie Presto tells an epic story of Frankie Presto,
one of the world’s greatest guitar players and how he changed six lives
with his six magical strings. Frankie, born in a church amidst the
Spanish civil war, was left to drown as an infant. Miraculously, he
survived and was raised by a blind music teacher until once again, war
tore his life apart.
To
save his life, his music teacher sent him away to America with an old
guitar and six magical strings. His musical journey takes him around the
world to perform and Frankie’s presence impacts many other artists
including the likes of Elvis Presley, Tony Bennett and the Beatles.
Frankie discovers his strings have the ability to alter people’s lives
at life or death moments.
Albom
never fails to deliver again with his remarkable new book told in the
voice of Music. Music is witty, funny and at times preachy. Narrated by
Music’s engaging tone, it added extra depth to this already beautiful
novel. I really enjoyed journeying with Frankie through his happy
moments and sad times. I found myself smiling when things went well for
Frankie and cried when the depths of despair consumed him.
The
Magic Strings of Frankie Presto is a great read for everyone regardless
of whether you are a musician or not. If you are a musician, you will
highly appreciate the musicality of this book. And if you are not,
maybe, just maybe, this book will lead to you start your own love story
with Music and appreciate Music even more.
Heartrending
and emotionally touching, Albom throws in a perfect mixture of magic
and music in this exceptional book. For a 500-page book, the story never
gets too draggy and moves at an allegro – quick – pace, drawing
readers in and tugging at their heartstrings. The Magic Strings of
Frankie Presto carries the message that “everyone joins a band in this
life” and that what we do always affects someone. Ultimately, Music is
the connection of human souls, and much like love, it has the power to
affect us all.
