Author : Stefan Swanepoel

Pages : 176

The second challenge for the “32 Books Challenge” was to read the type of book that your family likes. For this challenge, I asked my father what type of books he likes and I found out that he likes motivational, self-help books. He then recommended me to read ‘Surviving Your Serengeti: 7 Skills to Master Business and Life’, a motivational business fable based on the author’s experiences growing up in Africa and

Surviving Your Serengeti takes readers on a safari trip around the Serengeti to discover the essence of life itself and learn from the animals, practical ways to survive not only in business but also in the real world. This captivating tale offers a brief look of the struggles of the animals in Africa and what they do in order to survive.

It follows the story of Sean Spencer, who found himself in Africa after his wife; Ashley won the rookie salesperson of the year title. However, Sean was hardly enjoying the trip as his company was struggling to secure a deal back in California. A chance encounter with Sean’s former roommate back at the London School of Economics sends the couple on a journey of self-discovery as they learn the seven skills from the animals that thrive in the demanding and ever-changing conditions of the Serengeti.

This book is unique as it blends storytelling and practical advice together. It is a story interspersed with advice and a plan of action at the conclusion of every chapter. In this book, Swanepoel talks about seven animals in the Serengeti and their survival skills. He also gives practical advice on how to maximise each of the types of skills.

Surviving Your Serengeti is a great read for everyone, regardless of whether you are a businessman or not. If you are a businessman, you will benefit greatly by following the advice and the plan of action that Swanepoel had laid out. And if you are not, let this book be a reminder that you can achieve great things in life so long as you possess and apply the skills mentioned in your daily life.

All in all, this book is very easy to read and is filled with lots of vivid descriptions about the Serengeti. I could almost feel myself there watching the animals and drinking in the sights and sounds of Africa. It is a pleasant book that tackles strategies to help you live a meaningful and purposeful life.
